Have you ever played Laser tag? Imagine for a minute if we introduced some form of new display technology to the game. You put on a pair of what looks like sunglasses but are completely clear. The glasses have a wire going off of them connected to a small box clipped to your belt. This box acts as a trasmitter of types. Also connected to this box is your headphones with mic. Your wearing a vest. Looks like a regular black vest. Except inside are hundreds of little sensors.
In your hand is a gun. Everyone around you is dressed similiar.
Suddenly the games begin.

People who can’t think

When I started roxics.com a couple years ago I never knew what to do with it. The word itself is the name of a character in a screenplay I’ve been writing for years. I bought the URL (roxics.com) as a way to reserve it for when I hoped to make the film so that it could be the official website. However…

Virtual Reality Compression

Imagine if you could do a 3d scan of various objects at a certain resolution. Say 1 megapixels (1 million pixels) per square centimeter. Then you took those various objects and placed them all in a 3d enviornment. You would end up with an enviornment that was several billion pixels in size. In order to be able to see/interact in that enviroment in a realisitc way how well would you need it displayed to you?

Censorship

French owned RCA has announced that it will start shipping DVD players in the United States that will automatically censor offensive language, nudity, violence and other “offensive” content from DVDs that are played on the new player. This was done at Wal-Mart’s urging, RCA has claimed. Both Wal-Mart and Kmart will sell the players for $79.

Video Games

I’ve been taking a look at a few screenshots for the game Doom3 which will be released later this year. I have to say this looks like a pretty intense game. The industry has come a long way.

I’m not a big gamer myself. Every once in a while I find myself playing one to fill in a little bordem. I’m certainly not a hardcore gamer like people who go to conventions and lan parties. My glory days of gaming were when I was a kid and the NES first came out.

Hover Cars

Science Fiction films like Back the the Future 2 and others have all introduced to the concept of hover cars. Cars that fly around or float rather then being planted firmly on the ground by four wheels. But lets not confuse these things with airplanes and helicopters. Aside from the “cool factor” of what it would be like to have one there are a lot of very rational reasons they would be better then the cars we use today.

Prisons

It makes no sense to me that we gang up a bunch of outlaws in one place so they can network and trade ideas with each other and become more hostile.

When you’re in school the teacher always splits up the “bad kids” or the kids who are talking throughout class. Tries to get them as far away from each other as possible.

So why does our prison system gang them togther?

Seems like a cool and reasonable idea would be to teather them somehow and release them in society where they can be surrounded by normal people and be forced into reform.

Perhaps a new type of drug could induce some type of extreme anxiety everytime they came close to performing an illegal activity.

As someone who has suffered from anxiety in the past I’ll tell you that when it gets extreme you feel incredibly weak and powerless. You’re more likely to ask for help or call 911 then try and kill someone or steal. If you know you’re going to feel that way by attempting something like that you’ll learn quick to avoid it.
